Wintry Weather Snarls Traffic

Motorists spent hours waiting in traffic Monday due to nasty conditions caused by winter's first blast of the new year. Sources reported several local road closures including parts of Four Mile, Poplar Ridge and the AA Highway.

- Nominations for officers will be accepted at the January 23 meeting of the Camp Springs Initiative scheduled for 7pm at the Camp Springs Vineyard/Winery. If winter weather should cause a cancellation, nominations will be accepted at the next meeting.
- Carolyn Allender is taking orders for Camp Springs shirts. Profits will assist with legal fees incurred with the forced sewer main issue. Long sleeve shirts: $20. Fire District Reports Over 640 Runs in 2011

Through November, Campbell County Fire District #1 has reported 646 runs thus far in 2011. Click here for a monthly breakdown of the fire/ems statistics for the year. CCFD #1 has stations in Silver Grove, California and Camp Springs. We wish all a safe 2012.

St. Joseph's parishioner Chris Bezold (above) was one of many folks on the decorating team last night at the church on the hill. The team was preparing the church for the upcoming Christmas festivities. Masses are scheduled for tonight at 5pm, midnight and 10am tomorrow.
Oh Christmas Tree

Truly one of the most unique holiday sights in Camp Springs is this decorated and customized tree (pictured right). This display is now considered a tradition and can be found on Four Mile near the old Camp Springs Grocery.

Students from St. Joseph's School in Camp Springs performed their version of "A Christmas Carol" on Tuesday night in the school cafeteria. Dozens of parents, grandparents and other members of the community were on hand to enjoy this rendition of the classic from Charles Dickens. Department Ladies Auxiliary shared their vocal talent on Sunday as they made their rounds Christmas caroling. The Saturday afternoon crew at Hilltop Pines included three generations of the family owned and operated Christmas Tree business. (From left to right-back row: Rob Elam, Tom Ritter, Craig Elam, Joey Ritter and front row-William Ritter). Hilltop Pines is located on Ky. 1997 (Stonehouse Road) in Camp Springs. Their hours are: 2:30pm - dark Monday-Friday and 9am - dark Saturday-Sunday.

The one and only "Smiley Face" recently received a festive make-over just in time for the holidays. He can be spotted on Four Mile (on the left) as you travel towards the AA Highway.

2011 Herbst Tour Wrap-up: 6th annual set for October 21, 2012

“A Perfect Day”
“We truly were blessed with such a great day!” This sums up the success of the fifth annual Camp Springs Herbst Tour on October 16th. Visitors “from near and far” enjoyed the serene countryside
as they toured the 21 stops on the free self guided auto tour.
Herbst tour is a very special event. Thanks to all who participated in sharing with others, children
and adults, with lifelong memories of this very special place we call home. Know that many visitors
experienced a memorable day in the country.
There was much to do and see. Adults sipped wine, toured vintage stonehouses and traced their
roots at church records and cemeteries. Kids had a great time, petting animals, looking at fire
trucks, running mazes and enjoying pony rides. All enjoyed the food and refreshments.
Tour highlights included:
• Genealogy of interest to many in the parish register and cemetery stones at St. John
Lutheran
• St. Joseph Church tours with paintings of artist Leon Lippert, munching on tasty fish
sandwiches, and information by Campbell County Historical Society.
• “Soup, dessert and tons of hospitality” welcomed at Oakland Methodist whose new
addition brought “oohs” and aah’s”.
• The farms -Neltners , a variety of activities – Little Rock, demos of antique tools and maze
– Catalpa Farm, petting of miniature cattle – Arrasmith, lilies galore.- farm fresh produce,
pumpkins, flowers and more.
• The stonehouses – 150 year old homes displaying the cultural and historical legacy of Camp
Springs, unique in the metropolitan area. Leick House, FAHA House, Gubser Schuchter
House, Sauser Farm, Camp Springs House and Walter House.
• Pony rides and horse demos at Saddle Lake Equestrian Center . Pony rides with photos at
NK Saddle Club.
• The wineries – Camp Springs Vineyard and Stonebrook Winery – many visitors enjoying
wine tastings – and a libation in the Camp Springs Tavern.
• Kids seeing the fire trucks, photo art at Wiedeman’s, dogs & cats at Campbell County
Animal Shelter.

Animal Shelter Addition under Construction

Workers began construction this week on an addition to the Campbell County Animal Shelter. The project is scheduled for completion in March of 2012.
