Where is Four Mile Cemetary?
By Lonnie Enzweiler
I recently received an inquiry regarding the location of Four Mile Cemetary. A visit to the Campbell County Historical and Genealogical Society led me to information on a Four Mile Baptist Church (1819 - 1874). The records indicate the church was called the Regular Baptist Church of Jesus Christ at Four Mile, Campbell County, Kentucky. After every service a meeting was held to take care of any business and accept new members. Most meetings were held at the Ten Mile House while others took place in private homes and Fairview Schoolhouse.
At least three ministers served at the church including Brother James Spillman, M.D., Brother Jesse Beagle, M.D. and Brother George Graden, M.D. For a detailed list of members, visit the historical society in Alexandria, Ky.
In 1857 there was talk of buying land and building a meeting house. In 1873 records document discussions of putting a fence around the graveyard. My research resulted in no information on the location of this graveyard. If you know or have any details, please contact me through this web-site at hostmaster@campsprings.com.
Church attendance began dropping in 1858. In fact, some Sundays passed without a meeting. The congregation's
last meeting was held on April 18, 1874.
